Mono Lake from Mount Dana, California, United States

Detailed Description

Mono Lake is a large, shallow, saline lake in Mono County, California, formed at least 760,000 years ago. It is a terminal lake which means that under natural conditions, evaporation from the lake surface typically is the entire component of lake outflow. If you look closely you will see salt deposits left onshore as the water level has declined to serve the water needs of Los Angeles.
