Ostrich Egg (Struthio camelus)
Detailed Description
A hollowed out ostrich egg sold as a home decoration or tourist souvenior in southern Africa. This particular egg was on displayed in a basket of hollowed ostrich eggs in the restaurant of a hotel. A hole is made in one end of the egg through which the egg and other fluids are removed while leaving the shell intact. The shell is 3 to 4 mm thick and when tapped, sounds like a piece of ceramic pottery.
