#DYK autonomous vehicles provide USGS fisheries researchers in the Great Lakes, and other parts of the country, with crucial information about fish populations, invasive species, and other ecological conditions under the water? During summer 2022, two different types of autonomous vehicles were deployed simultaneously along with traditional and other advanced technologies in western Lake Superior. The purpose of the multi-partner mission was to carry out hydroacoustic fishery surveys and experiments to provide the best possible information on prey fish abundances to fishery managers and to improve USGS hydroacoustic methods used throughout the Great Lakes.
