Scientist filters stream water samples for cultivation on selective media for bacteria growth

Detailed Description
Michigan Bacteriological Research Laboratory (MI-BaRL) biologist Alexei Rose filters stream water samples for cultivation on selective media for bacteria growth. After incubation, she will count the number of bacteria colonies present, extract DNA from those bacteria, and then use that DNA in molecular assays, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), to determine whether these bacteria have antibiotic resistance genes.
