Detailed Description

This exposure is in the Little Zigzag Canyon on the southwest flank of Mount Hood. A prismatically jointed boulder can be seen in the center, yellowish, lahar deposit. The deposits were emplaced during the Timberline eruptive period about 1,500 years ago. Shovel is about two feet (55 centimeters) long.
