Social media for barrier island study
Detailed Description
A recent USGS study highlights the impacts of #hurricanes and #storms on #barrierislands, focusing on the outwash process, where flooding from behind the dunes removes sand, plants, and seeds, washing them into the #ocean.
In areas affected by #outwash, vegetation regrowth can take up to 10 years. We hypothesize this delay is due to a lack of seeds or roots in the marine sand, making it harder for plants to establish.
These findings could shift how we model outwash processes and how affected areas are managed.
