Tackling the Multifaceted Data-to Action Puzzle
Detailed Description
A Grand Challenge. A 21st century grand challenge for natural resource conservation is how to connect data to successful action. This critical link between research (data) and management/policy decisions (action) is widely examined. Yet, a full measure of success in making these connections still eludes the natural resource profession. Of course, impactful decisions are driven not only by science, but also by an array of powerful socioeconomic and political factors. Nevertheless, a more holistic approach to addressing the multifaceted data-to-action puzzle can provide benefits for many common resource management activities (e.g., regulating sustainable harvest, maintaining natural biodiversity, restoring habitat, managing anthropogenic impacts, dealing with climate change)
