Tephra covers Crater Rim Drive downwind of fountain, Kīlauea
Detailed Description
Airborne lava fragments (tephra) falling to the ground covered the Chain of Craters road downwind of Kīlauea Iki and stripped leaves and branches from the forest. The trees, though almost entirely defoliated, survived the eruption and flourish today.
