USGS 2025 NSHM for Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands

Detailed Description

The Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands USGS National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) includes updated geologic and geophysical model inputs ready for the 2025 release. Some example inputs are shown in this map: the updated earthquake catalog (ComCat) and other model inputs such as the Slab2 (Hayes, 2018) model of subduction that highlights the complexity of subduction for the region. The National Seismic Hazard Model Project assessed new model inputs to update our understanding of the Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands region. Numerous contributions from the wider scientific community make the model (NSHM) possible, and the model represents the application of the best available science for the purpose of hazard mitigation.
