Detailed Description
Minerals Coloring Sheet: molybdenite
The mineral molybdenite, with the chemical formula MoS2, is the main source for the metal molybdenum. Fun fact: the Climax Mine in Colorado, USA, was once the largest molybdenum mine in the world!
In the picture is a piece of granite with a big molybdenite crystal. Granite is an igneous rock with crystals of quartz, feldspar and other minerals that are large enough to see.
Most molybdenum is used to make super strong steel. This strong steel helps build cars, tools, bridges, and tall buildings!
