USGS Scientists Using Telemetry to Study Brown Treesnakes
Detailed Description
USGS staff Marijoy Viernes and Thomas Hinkle using telemetry equipment to help determine the fates of brown treesnakes following a toxicant application during an experimental eradication led by USGS.
Brown treesnakes are found throughout Guam, although they are primarily arboreal and abundant within Guam’s forests. Due to extreme difficult detecting them, their wide dietary and habitat breadths, and mild venom they have had negative ecological and economic effects on Guam and pose an ongoing risk to other islands in the region.
