USGS Volunteers for Science collect groundwater samples

Did you know that there are sometimes volunteer opportunities for hydrogeology students to work with USGS? In this photo, USGS Volunteers for Science Mara Meggiorin (University of Padova), left, and Vanessa Fernandes (University of Arizona), right, are sampling groundwater for PFAS/PFOS constituents in August 2019. Their work was part of USGS New York Water Science Center groundwater studies, including an ongoing USGS collaboration with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to assess the sustainability of the Long Island aquifer system.
