Detailed Description

Water quality samples collected at USGS monitoring station 01628500 - S F Shenandoah River Near Lynnwood, VA.

For each chemical we seek to detect in a water-quality sample, the water sample requires a specific preparation before it can be tested in the lab. The water sample is divided into different bottles, one for each constituent to be tested for. Some samples are pre-filtered, while others are not. Some are preserved with specific acids while others are left unpreserved. These samples are then analyzed in the lab and the results posted to the USGS Water Quality Portal.
