Sometimes the whole is actually *less* than the sum of its parts. In this case, it turns out that cadmium and zinc, when combined in ratios like you'd see in the environment, they are actually less toxic to aquatic insects than adding up their individual toxicities. Video shows caddisflies, one of the insects studied in the research, in an artificial stream. The caddisflies have their arms raised to snag food particles. You can see it grab food and bring it to its mouth. Audio is ambient sound with no voiceover.
