Permanent Site: J1 East Transect; Depth: 9.1 Meters (30.0 Feet); Distance from river mouth: 6.7 Kilometers (4.1 Miles) east; Pre/Post Dam Removal: 10 months post-dam removal; Lat/Long: 48.13607725,-123.47935008; Site Description: This permanent transect was only established post dam-removal after it was discovered that the degree of seaweed loss was more extensive than expected at the other permanent sites. Three sites, two further east (J1, K1) and one further west (L1) of the river mouth, were set up on former random sites known to have seaweed. Pre-dam removal conditions of the J1 East area can be seen on the video ‘6MH18 (J1) East Transect – 2008’. This site is medium depth. Substrates is mainly a gravel/sand mixture with an occasional boulder. Seaweed density has greatly decreased. Predominant species are the perennial seaweed Pterygophora californica (0:43 seconds) and Saccharina spp. (0:33, 0:49 seconds). Reds are also present (0:31 seconds). The feather duster tubeworm Eudistylia vancouveri is still very abundant (1:08 seconds).
