Activity Description: Restore native vegetation and mitigate environmental hazards on mined Federal and non-Federal land. The USGS will provide science to support:
Science-based restoration of mined land through the creation of the National Geospatial Decision Tool for use by managers and decision-makers allows for the analysis of defined mine lands to identify potential hazards and risks to the health of ecosystems and vulnerable communities. Desired outcomes are to unite national data in an online, accessible, and searchable geospatial application driven by explicit stakeholder needs. A proof-of-concept application focused on targeted use-case scenarios will demonstrate how the tool can be used to evaluate and prioritize remediation sites and potentially assess the effectiveness of future restoration projects. Stakeholders and partners for this project include USGS, BIA, BLM, BOR, NPS, and FWS.
