Learn more about the trail planning tool's (TRAILS) transition to a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) login process.
The TRAILS application is a trail planning support tool for land/trail managers. TRAILS improves the early planning and collaboration process for planners wanting to improve connectivity within their trail system or to plan new routes.
For those of you actively using TRAILS, please note the following upcoming changes. In accordance with Department of Interior guidance, we are transitioning to a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) login process for the trail planning tool (TRAILS). The new process will utilize LOGIN.GOV and provide a more secure way to access the application.
What happens next?
Current TRAILS users will be contacted in early December with instructions on how to create a new account and to ensure their current project information is migrated properly.
For about 30 days, users will have access to both their “old” and “new” accounts. Once we are confident the new application is working properly “old” accounts will be disabled and existing project data will be migrated to each user’s LOGIN.GOV based account.
If your TRAILS account has been inactive for over 6 months or if you miss the 30-day transition period, you will still be able to access your project information by emailing us at trails@usgs.gov for help.
Thank you for your patience as we navigate this transition.
