National Geographic photographer, Keith Ladzinski, photographs live sea lamprey at Hammond Bay Biological Station on September 11, 2019. An interview of Ladzinski, during which he discussed his visit to the station, aired on NPR Michigan Radio’s Stateside program on December 7, 2020.

Keith Ladzinski, photographer for the National Geographic Magazine December 2020 cover story on the Great Lakes, discussed his September 2019 visit to the GLSC’s Hammond Bay Biological Station (Millersburg, Michigan) on an interview for NPR Michigan Radio’s Stateside program, which aired on December 7, 2020. Ladzinski described the station’s staff as “inviting” and “excited about lampreys” and referred to the staff as the “unsung heroes” of the Great Lakes for decades of research which has led to successful control of sea lamprey. Ladzinski then followed with a synopsis of sea lamprey invasion, ecology, and control in the Great Lakes. The story, “National Geographic journalists capture the majesty and fragility of the Great Lakes,” is available on the Michigan Radio website. Ladzinski’s comments about Hammond Bay Biological Station begin at 7 minutes, 50 seconds into the audio clip.
