The Oregon spotted frog (OSF) has been extirpated from much of western Oregon and remaining populations are concentrated along the east flank of the Cascade range.
The OSF is listed as threatened due to loss of populations and favored marsh habitat. Other factors that have contributed to OSF declines include introduced predators, such as fish and bullfrogs, and anthropogneic habitat modifications, like ditching wetlands and beaver removal. USGS scientists will begin a study to examine how beaver expansion affects OSFs in the Mink Lake Basin in the Three Sisters Wilderness in Oregon. The study is supported by Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB) and the U.S. Forest Service, who will help with data collection.
