Media Advisory: USGS Deploys Crews in Advance of Storm and Inland Flooding

Currently, heavy rains and hazardous weather conditions are predicted for western North Carolina and most of South Carolina by the National Weather Service, with flooding possible over parts of the region over the next several days.

U.S. Geological Survey field crews will be in the field installing instruments and measuring flooding on rivers and streams across the Carolinas tomorrow through Monday.  Crews will focus on portions of the Yadkin-Pee Dee, Santee, Edisto and Savannah rivers, along with coastal areas around Charleston and Myrtle Beach. When flooding occurs, USGS crews make numerous streamflow measurements to verify the data USGS provides to federal, state and local agencies, as well as to the public.
