Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center director Guy Gelfenbaum and NW Region Staff Scientist Bill Labiosa represented the USGS in the Puget Sound Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C. May 14 – 16. The annual event is primarily an opportunity for Puget Sound local, state, tribal, and non-profit groups to visit their elected officials and thank them for their support. The group met with both Washington Senators and six House Members who all expressed continued interest in Puget Sound recovery and a commitment to seek additional federal funding. Part of the agenda included a Federal Agency Panel with officials from EPA, NOAA, Army Corps of Engineers, and USGS. The session included short agency presentations and a lengthy discussion. Guy provided updates on the Coastal Habitats in Puget Sound project and on the “PS-CoSMoS: Puget Sound Coastal Storm Modeling System” project. The Puget Sound Partnership, a Washington state agency, organized the event.
