Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Geochemical and spectroscopic data on outcrop samples from the informal Uteland Butte member of the Eocene Green River Formation in Uinta Basin, Utah Geochemical and spectroscopic data on outcrop samples from the informal Uteland Butte member of the Eocene Green River Formation in Uinta Basin, Utah
The informal Uteland Butte member of the Eocene Green River Formation in the Uinta Basin, Utah is one of the few examples of a continuous petroleum resource play in the world situated in a lacustrine sedimentary basin (Johnson and others, 2015; Birdwell and others, 2016). The datasets compiled here were collected on outcrop samples of the Uteland Butte member with the purpose of better
Geochemical data for the Green River Formation in the Piceance Basin, Colorado: Major and trace element concentrations and total organic carbon content Geochemical data for the Green River Formation in the Piceance Basin, Colorado: Major and trace element concentrations and total organic carbon content
The Eocene Green River Formation in the Piceance Basin of Colorado contains some of the richest oil shale deposits in the world (Johnson and others, 2009; Birdwell and others, 2013). The datasets compiled here were collected with the purpose of refining our understanding of geochemical variability through the depositional history of Eocene Lake Uinta in Piceance Basin. The effects of...
Compilation of offset measurements and fault data for global strike-slip faults with multiple earthquakes Compilation of offset measurements and fault data for global strike-slip faults with multiple earthquakes
This Data Release provides the compilation of offset measurement datasets and associated fault data to accompany the manuscript "Climatic influence on the expression of strike-slip faulting" by Reitman et al. In addition to a ReadMe file, it includes two tabular datasets, one code, and one text file. The datasets are a compilation of offset measurement data ("data_multiple_eq_offsets...
Digital database of the previously published Geologic map of the Limon quadrangle, Colorado and Kansas Digital database of the previously published Geologic map of the Limon quadrangle, Colorado and Kansas
This digital data release contains geospatial geologic and paleontological data of the 1° x2 °, 1:250,000 Limon quadrangle covering eastern Colorado and western Kansas. The dataset is a digital reproduction of previously published U.S. Geological Survey field mapping which illustrates the spatial configuration of primarily Quaternary surficial units overlying upper Miocene, Oligocene...
Alaska Science Center Data Sheets from Intracoelomic Transmitter Implant and Liver Biopsy Surgeries in Birds, 1993-2012 Alaska Science Center Data Sheets from Intracoelomic Transmitter Implant and Liver Biopsy Surgeries in Birds, 1993-2012
These are surgery data sheets filled out during operations on many bird species by the USGS Alaska Science Center, 1993-2012. The majority of surgeries were to implant intracoelomic tracking transmitters, but a subset were to collect liver biopsy samples. The data sheets provide information about individual surgeries, including: data about each bird, the timing of steps during each...
Global dataset of species-specific inland recreational fisheries harvest for consumption (ver. 1.1, September 2025) Global dataset of species-specific inland recreational fisheries harvest for consumption (ver. 1.1, September 2025)
Inland recreational fisheries, found in lakes, rivers, and other landlocked waters, are important to livelihoods, nutrition, leisure, and other societal ecosystem services worldwide. Although recreationally-caught fish are frequently harvested and consumed by fishers, their contribution to food and nutrition has not been adequately quantified due to lack of data, poor monitoring, and...
