Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

A database of artisanal, small-scale, and large-scale mining in the Copperbelt region of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia A database of artisanal, small-scale, and large-scale mining in the Copperbelt region of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia

Cobalt, designated a critical mineral by the European Union and the United States, is a crucial component of the lithium-ion batteries found in cell phones, electric vehicles, and personal computing devices. Over half of the world’s cobalt supply is produced in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where cobalt is mined in both large-scale and artisanal or small-scale operations...

Microtremor array data on Whidbey Island, Washington Microtremor array data on Whidbey Island, Washington

The U.S. Geological Survey collected a grid of microtremor data points using Smartsolo 3-component seismic sensors from August 7th to August 11th, 2023. These sensors have a five Hz resonance frequency. The grid was deployed over a section of the Utsalady Point fault that runs east-west across the southern portion of the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington State. For four days...

Digital Surface Models of the Kajaki Dam in the Helmand Valley, Afghansitan from 1952 Historical Aerial Photos. Digital Surface Models of the Kajaki Dam in the Helmand Valley, Afghansitan from 1952 Historical Aerial Photos.

This study applied historical aerial imagery and satellite imagery to create digital surface models (DSMs) of the Helmand River Valley situated in southwestern Afghanistan. The historical imagery, collected in 1952 by Fairchild Aerial Surveys Incorporated (FAS), at 1:40,000 scale, represents the earliest known aerial photographic archive of the Helmand Valley landscape. Structure-from...

Water Inundation Dataset from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR): Jim Foot Key, FL Water Inundation Dataset from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR): Jim Foot Key, FL

This dataset is derived from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data collected between July 2022-December 2024 and focuses on water inundation patterns on Jim Foot Key, located within Florida Bay. The dataset includes 13 TIFF files at 0.5 meter-3 meter horizontal resolution, that have undergone preprocessing and water thresholding methods to identify areas of inundation. These analyses were...

Microbial Processes Contributing to the Clogging of Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Wells in South Florida Microbial Processes Contributing to the Clogging of Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Wells in South Florida

This data release includes data collected from laboratory experiments designed to characterize the microbial processes that contribute to clogging (i.e., bioclogging) of wells used for recharge (i.e., injection) of fresh surface water into specific aquifer zones (Upper Floridan Aquifer [UFA] and Avon Park Permeable Zone [APPZ]) as part of water storage technology of aquifer storage and...

Stream Temperature, Intermittency, and Conductivity (STIC) logger and comparison datasets for quantifying river connectivity in tributaries of the Colorado River, TX Stream Temperature, Intermittency, and Conductivity (STIC) logger and comparison datasets for quantifying river connectivity in tributaries of the Colorado River, TX

Stream Temperature, Intermittency, and Conductivity (STIC) loggers were deployed in tributaries of the Colorado River, TX to monitor for water presence. These loggers were deployed in a riffle and pool mesohabitat at 19 sites and recorded a measurement every six hours from June 2022 to March 2024. The loggers record temperature and relative conductivity. We calculated drying metrics...
