The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Sulfur dioxide emission rates from Hawaiian volcanoes, 2018-2022 Sulfur dioxide emission rates from Hawaiian volcanoes, 2018-2022

Measurement of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission rates is a critical aspect of monitoring and studying active volcanoes. Changes in emission rate are often associated with changes in volcanic activity and in some cases may herald future changes in activity. At the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), emission rates of SO2 from Hawaiian volcanoes have been measured by ultraviolet spectrometer...

Digital Data for Land and climate change in Mexico and Texas reveals small effects on migratory habitat of monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus). Digital Data for Land and climate change in Mexico and Texas reveals small effects on migratory habitat of monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus).

The decline of the iconic monarch butterfly in North America has motivated research on the impacts of land use and land cover (LULC) change and climate variability on monarch habitat and population dynamics. We investigated spring and fall trends in LULC, milkweed and nectar resources over a 20-year period, and ~30 years of climate variables in Mexico and Texas, a key region supporting...

Above-water hyperspectral field spectroscopy measurements at Franks Tract in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California Above-water hyperspectral field spectroscopy measurements at Franks Tract in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California

Hand-held hyperspectral spectroscopy data were collected in 2022 in Franks Tract, a flooded area located in the central Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta of California. The data were collected from a boat and co-located within pixels from the Ocean Land Color Imaging (OLCI) sensor on the Sentinel-3A and 3-B satellites. Data from 16 sites within 7 OLCI pixels were collected on three days: July...

infoGWauxs, Auxiliary methods for infoGW and similar groundwater level data objects and other helpful utilities infoGWauxs, Auxiliary methods for infoGW and similar groundwater level data objects and other helpful utilities

The infoGWauxs package in the R language provides auxiliary methods for data merging, duplicate-record removal, and monthly rollup of groundwater levels in the so-called infoGW or GWmaster data objects. These data structures are particularly well suited for statistical analyses of groundwater levels. This package is part of a greater body of data processors oriented around the infoGW...

Rare earth element concentrations for oil shales and isolated kerogens from around the world Rare earth element concentrations for oil shales and isolated kerogens from around the world

This Data Release contains lanthanide (i.e., rare earth element, REE), yttrium (Y), and scandium (Sc) concentrations for oil shales and kerogens isolated from those presented in the associated journal article "Role of Organic Matter and Thermal Maturation in Rare Earth Element Partitioning in the Middle Devonian Sequence of the Appalachian Basin". This dataset provides REE content for a...

Detrital zircon U-Pb data for Upper Triassic sandstones of the Auld Lang Syne basin, northwest Nevada, USA Detrital zircon U-Pb data for Upper Triassic sandstones of the Auld Lang Syne basin, northwest Nevada, USA

This data release includes raw detrital zircon U-Pb data for isolated sandstones in Upper Triassic deposits of the Auld Lang Syne basin of northwest Nevada, USA. Detrital zircon U-Pb data for 11 sandstone samples (3269 zircon U-Pb dates) were acquired via LA-ICP-MS at the University of Arizona LaserChron Center for 11 sandstone samples. Primary insights from the data are twofold: 1) The...
