Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Sediment and nutrient retention in floodplain forest soils related to flood frequency and presence/absence of invasive reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea) in the upper Mississippi River Navigation Pool 8 in 2019 Sediment and nutrient retention in floodplain forest soils related to flood frequency and presence/absence of invasive reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea) in the upper Mississippi River Navigation Pool 8 in 2019

The dataset represents the results of floodplain soil samples collected in Navigation Pool 8 of the upper Mississippi River. The objective of the research was to assess the changes in soil chemistry and nutrient transformation at floodplain forest sites in the presence or absence of invasive reed canarygrass (RCG- Phalaris arundinacea) and determine if the RCG effect was modified by the...

Predictions of specific conductance and departures from background specific conductance in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, 2001-2016 Predictions of specific conductance and departures from background specific conductance in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, 2001-2016

Freshwater salinization is an emerging water quality issue for non-tidal streams and rivers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed (CBW), USA region. A model was developed to predict specific conductance (SC; a proxy for salinity) conditions across the CBW and departures from background SC. Discrete observations of SC from 1999-2016 were acquired from a published SC data inventory and...

Compilation of surface water diversion sites and daily withdrawals for the Upper Colorado River Basin, 1980-2022 Compilation of surface water diversion sites and daily withdrawals for the Upper Colorado River Basin, 1980-2022

This data release contains an inventory of 1,358 major surface water diversion structures with associated daily time series withdrawal records (1980-2022) for structures within the Upper Colorado River and Little Colorado River Basins. Diversion structures were included in this dataset if they were determined to have the capacity to divert water at rates greater than 10 cubic feet per...

Data and metrics for evaluating hydrologic model performance and simulation of drought duration, severity, deficit, and occurrence in the conterminous United States Data and metrics for evaluating hydrologic model performance and simulation of drought duration, severity, deficit, and occurrence in the conterminous United States

This data release presents truth data and benchmark results describing simulation of hydrologic drought events in the conterminous United States. This data release supports a publication (Simeone and others, 2024) which documents drought benchmarking methods and their application to the results of the National Water Model (NWM) version 2.1. Truth data used were observations at U.S...

Streamflow drought Hytest NHM Streamflow drought Hytest NHM

This data release presents truth data and benchmark results describing simulation of hydrologic drought events in the conterminous United States. This data release supports a publication (Simeone and others, 2024) which documents drought benchmarking methods and their application to the results of the National Hydrologic Model Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System v1.0 (NHM-PRMS). Truth...

Rates of change in invasive annual grass cover to inform potential management opportunities across the sagebrush biome of the western United States Rates of change in invasive annual grass cover to inform potential management opportunities across the sagebrush biome of the western United States

We used Rangeland Condition Monitoring Assessment and Projection (RCMAP) maps of annual herbaceous fractional components (mostly invasive annual grasses) to calculate mean rate of change in invasive annual grass cover over five-year time periods (ratesOfChange1987_2021.zip). We also created a map that identifies zones of the sagebrush biome that could be prioritized for different...
