The North Central Climate Science Center (CSC; now Climate Adaptation Science Center) was initiated in 2011 to support actionable science to support tribal, federal, state, and local natural resource managers and decision-makers in the North Central region, which serves Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas and Nebraska. NC CSC was hosted by the Colorado State University (CSU) when originally started, and was a partnership between CSU, the U.S. Geological Survey, and eight additional consortium partner institutions: University of Montana, Montana State University, University of Wyoming, University of Colorado, Colorado School of Mines, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Kansas State University, and Iowa State University. Primary activities for the Center during this period included three “Foundational Science Areas” led by CSU focused on climate drivers, ecological impacts, and adaptation. Additional USGS-led research foci included invasives, remote sensing, and phenology.
