Earthquakes, July-August, 1980

During the months of July and August, the first great earthquake (magntidue 8.0 and above) since 1977 and two major earthquakes (magnitude 7.0-7.9) were located in the southwest Pacific. Damaging earthquakes, causing deaths, occurred in Greece, Nepal, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Kashmir.

A number of earthquakes were experienced in the United States, but the most significant was a magnitude 5.2 in Kentucky on July 27.
