La Garita Wilderness, Colorado

Geologic and mineral-resource appraisal studies in and near the La Garita Wilderness in the central San Juan Mountains of Colorado have shown that all significant known mineral resources are outside the wilderness. A few small and low-grade veins containing local concentrations of lead, zinc, and silver occur in and adjacent to the western part of the wilderness and the area is considered to have a probable mineral-resource potential.
