During a six-week period in the Spring of 1980, approximately seven months after the October 15, 1979 earthquake, parts of the Imperial Valley mekometer network (Fig. 1) were re-measured for comparison with measurements made during the twelve months preceding the earthquake and the six weeks following it. The purpose was to extend the area covered by the postearthquake measurements, and to establish the rate of adjustment at a time intermediate between the immediate postearthquake period of rapid change and the long-term "steady" state.
