Analysis of water supply trends across the conterminous United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands for water years 1983–2021
This software repository contains code which does two distinct but related tasks for use in the National Integrated Water Availability Assessment (IWAA), version 1b, Trends chapter. First, it assigns hydroclimatic regions and aggregated hydroclimatic regions to 12-digit hydrologic unit codes (HUC12s) in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Alaska. Second, it generates tables and figures used in the analysis of water supply trends for water years 1983–2021 using the hydroclimatic regions. Hydroclimatic regions were assigned using windward-leeward regional divides identified by Kāne and others (2024) in Hawaii, and Gómez-Gómez, Rodríguez-Martínez, and Santiago (2014) in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands but modified to create areas of contiguous HUC12 assignment to a region.
