Alison M. Piasecki, PhD

Alison Piasecki is a Research Geologist at the Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center.

Alison Piasecki is a Research Geologist at the US Geological Survey. She is the principal investigator for the USGS Stable Isotope Lab (GSIL), a multi-instrument lab specializing in high-precision measurements of light stable isotopes in ore forming systems and mine waste characterization. Her current research interests are expanding oxygen isotope thermometry to high-temperature ore forming systems through methods development, including calculating the composition of ore forming fluids. She is also excited by combing multiple isotope systems to constrain the complicated multi-generational fluid events prevalent in complex geologic histories. Prior to joining the USGS she completed a BS at MIT in 2009. In 2015, Alison completed a PhD at Caltech in modeling site-specific fractionation, developing a method to measure high mass resolution hydrocarbon techniques, and applications to non-conventional hydrocarbon reservoirs. In postdocs her research focused on methods development to small samples and new techniques to understand the temperature of formation of minerals and the fluids they form from.
