Gari Mayberry

I am the Volcano Hazards Program Coordinator within the Natural Hazards Mission Area. For the 20 years before my current position, I was the USGS and US Agency for International Development Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (USAID/BHA) Natural Hazards and Disaster Risk Reduction Team Lead and Geoscience Advisor.

I am a volcanologist who provides guidance and technical assistance on program development, disaster response, and mitigation activities as the leader of the Volcano Hazards Program.

I have 20 years of experience as the USGS and USAID/BHA Natural Hazards and Disaster Risk Reduction Team Lead and Geoscience Advisor. I led the USAID/BHA team that addresses issues related to international geological and meteorological hazards and general disaster risk reduction, including climate change. I guided programs, disaster response, and mitigation efforts in the fields of earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, and tsunamis to USAID/BHA, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and other bureaus in USAID. I served as a liaison with the USGS and helped to manage the USGS-USAID Volcano Disaster Assistance Program and the Landslide and Earthquake Disaster Assistance Teams.
