JoAnna G. Marlow

I work for the Volcano Disaster Assistance Program (VDAP), a partnership between the USGS and USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA). In my current position, I contribute to the development of a Daily Volcanic Activity Report, a collaborative project between VDAP and the Smithsonian Institution's Global Volcanism Program (GVP).

I work with multidisciplinary and multilingual volcano monitoring data and reports to help populate databases of volcanic eruption information for eruption forecasting and eruption event chronologies. I am interested in the lifecycle of volcanic eruption data, forecasting, eruption data visualizations, and volcanic hazards risk reduction. I am also interested in the use of web ontology language to improve the semantic web for volcanology-related multilingual terminology, and the way languages influence the narrative volcano monitoring report styles that vary greatly between countries.
