Max (Gordon) Showalter, PhD
Max (Gordon) Showalter is the Research Coordinator and Tribal Liaison for the Western Fisheries Science Center.
Max is an interdisciplinary scientist with experience facilitating the development and implementation of complex science-backed climate initiatives. Most recently, Max worked to advance state-level natural resource management, developing programs to conserve and recover kelp and eelgrass, accelerate salmon and watershed recovery, and improve stewardship of co-managed geoduck resources in Washington. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with Tribal nations to ensure meaningful co-stewardship.
With a dual PhD in Oceanography and Astrobiology, Max’s technical background spans field- and lab-based research as well as quantitative modeling performed during his dissertation work investigating microbial carbon cycling within Arctic sea ice.
