U.S. Geological Survey and Blackfeet Water Department Hydrologic Assessment of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, Montana
The Blackfeet Nation seeks an increased scientific understanding of the water resources within the Blackfeet Indian Reservation of northwestern Montana. Hydrologic information is needed to better inform water-management decisions as the Blackfeet Nation implements the Blackfeet Water Rights Compact, initiates new water-use projects, and improves the Blackfeet Irrigation Project. The U.S...

Determination of channel-morphology characteristics, bankfull discharge, and various design-peak discharges in western Montana
Stream-restoration projects using natural stream designs typically are based on channel configurations that can accommodate a wide range of streamflow and sediment-transport conditions without excessive erosion or deposition. Bankfull discharge is an index of streamflow considered to be closely related to channel shape, size, and slope (channel morphology). Because of the need for more...

Hydrogeologic data for the northern Rocky Mountains intermontane basins, Montana
The U.S. Geological Survey began a Regional Aquifer- System Analysis of the Northern Rocky Mountains Intermontane Basins of western Montana and central and central and northern Idaho in 1990 to establish a regional framework of information for aquifers in 54 intermontane basins in an area of about 77,500 square miles. Selected hydrogeologic data have been used as part of this analysis to...

Site Assessment and Monitoring of Constructed Wetlands in Montana
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) occasionally causes disturbance to wetlands during construction. To comply with Federal, State, and Tribal regulations, MDT creates replacement wetlands to compensate for wetland loss. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collaborates with MDT to assess potential wetland replacement sites and monitor water conditions at established replacement sites...
Water-Quality and Fish Tissue Data from Boneau and Williamson Reservoirs, Chippewa Cree Tribe Rocky Boy's Reservation, Box Elder, Montana, May - September 2022
Water and fish tissue were sampled in Boneau and Williamson reservoirs, Rocky Boy's Reservation, near Box Elder, Montana. The sampling was part of a program funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Sampling was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Chippewa Cree Tribe, to characterize background water quality and mercury in fish tissue within the tribal lands.
