Simulation of flow in the Edwards Aquifer, San Antonio region, Texas, and refinement of storage and flow concepts Simulation of flow in the Edwards Aquifer, San Antonio region, Texas, and refinement of storage and flow concepts
The Edwards aquifer is a complexly faulted, carbonate aquifer lying within the Balcones fault zone of south-central Texas. The aquifer is recharged mainly by streamflow losses in the outcrop area of the Edwards aquifer and is discharged by major springs located at considerable distances, as much as 150 mi, from the areas of recharge, and by wells. Groundwater flow within the Edwards...

Floods in central Texas, August 1-4, 1978 Floods in central Texas, August 1-4, 1978
Catastrophic floods caused by record rainfall occurred in central Texas during August 1-4, 1978. Torrential rain initiated by the remnants of tropical storm Amelia fell over south-central Texas during August 1-3, and very intense rain due to the interaction between the cold front and maritime air mass fell over north-central Texas on August 3-4. Rainfall of more than 48 inches near...

Water resources data, Texas, water year 1986, Volume 1: Arkansas River basin, Red River basin, Sabine River basin, Neches River basin, Trinity River basin, and intervening and adjacent coastal basins Water resources data, Texas, water year 1986, Volume 1: Arkansas River basin, Red River basin, Sabine River basin, Neches River basin, Trinity River basin, and intervening and adjacent coastal basins
The Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Federal, State, and City agencies, obtains a large amount of data pertaining to the water resources of Texas each water year. Such data, accumulated during many water years, constitute a valuable data base for developing an improved understanding of the water resources of the State. To make these data readily...

Areal and temporal variations in the quality of surface water in hydrologic accounting unit 120301, Upper Trinity River basin, Texas Areal and temporal variations in the quality of surface water in hydrologic accounting unit 120301, Upper Trinity River basin, Texas
Hydrologic Accounting Unit 120301 is located in north-central Texas and includes that part of the Trinity River basin upstream from the National Stream Quality Accounting Network station 08062700, Trinity River at Trinidad, Texas. Normal annual precipitation ranges from about 28 inches in the western part of the basin to almost 40 inches in the eastern part. The population of the upper...

Hydrologic data for urban studies in the Austin metropolitan area, Texas, 1984 Hydrologic data for urban studies in the Austin metropolitan area, Texas, 1984
Hydrologic investigations of urban watersheds in Texas were begun by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1954. Studies are now in progress in Austin, and Houston. Studies have been completed in the Dallas, Fort Worth, and San Antonio areas. The Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Water Reources, began hydrologic studies in the Austin urban area in 1954. In...

Recharge zone of the Edwards aquifer hydrologically associated with Barton springs in the Austin area, Texas Recharge zone of the Edwards aquifer hydrologically associated with Barton springs in the Austin area, Texas
The Edwards aquifer extends in a narrow belt from Bell County in the northeast to Kinney County in the southwest (index map) and provides water for at least nine counties in south-central Texas. Hydrologic boundaries divide the Edwards aquifer in the Austin area for which Barton Springs is the major discharge point. This part of the Edwards aquifer provides the municipal, industrial...

Planning report for the Edwards-Trinity Regional Aquifer-System analysis in central Texas, southeast Oklahoma, and southwest Arkansas Planning report for the Edwards-Trinity Regional Aquifer-System analysis in central Texas, southeast Oklahoma, and southwest Arkansas
The Edwards-Trinity regional aquifer system supplies more than 0.78 million acre-feet per year (700 million gallons per day) of water for central Texas and small adjacent parts of southeast Oklahoma and southwest Arkansas. The system consists of three major aquifers and at least three minor aquifers in predominantly Cretaceous rocks, which together have an areal extent of about 80,000...

Hydro!ogic investigations of urban watersheds in Texas were begun by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1954. Studies are now in progress in the Austin and Houston areas, and have been completed in the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio areas. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the city of Houston, began studies in the Houston metropolitan area in 1964. The program was expanded in...

Approximate altitude of water levels in wells in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston area, Texas, spring 1986 Approximate altitude of water levels in wells in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston area, Texas, spring 1986
The purpose of this report, which was prepared in cooperation with the City of Houston and the Harris-Galveston Coastal Subsidence District, is to show the altitudes of water levels in wells in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston, Texas, metropolitan areas. The maps are based on water-level measurements in spring of 1986 in about 400 wells.

Statistical summary and evaluation of the quality of surface water in the Colorado River basin, 1973-82 water years Statistical summary and evaluation of the quality of surface water in the Colorado River basin, 1973-82 water years
Significant upward trends in dissolved-solids concentrations were detected with the Seasonal Kendall Test for trends at three stations in the upper basin during the study period. The increases exceeded 270 milligrams per liter per year at two stations and 165 milligrams per liter per year at the third station. The composition of dissolved constituents in the Colorado River basin changes...
