Kilauea Message 2026-07-15 08:38:47 HST
Episode 51 fountaining began at about 8:30 a.m. HST marked by deflation of summit tilt and increase in summit tremor. Current fountain is 100 feet (30 meters) high and growing. Peak fountain height is expected in 1-2 hours.

A vigorous overflow fed by a dome fountain began at 4:47 am HST from the north vent. Earlier this morning there were small overflows from both vents. Summit inflation is currently plateaued continuing the stepped pattern of the past 2 days.

North vent overflows decreased dramatically in vigor at 3:24 p.m. HST as tilt at UWD rolled over to nearly flat. By 16:12 pm HST, lava was no longer overflowing the vent, and by 4:55 pm HST, spatter was no longer visible in the north vent.

The north vent began overflowing at 2:51 pm HST marking the start of precursory eruptions before episode 51 fountains. VAN VONA in process to raise alert levels from YELLOW ADVISORY to ORANGE WARNING.

Strong glow from both vents with a trace of spatter from the north vent just before midnight. The summit is rapidly reinflating. If this rate continues, episode 51 is likely to start some time tomorrow and could be as early as 7-8 am HST.

Kīlauea's summit began inflating at 1:00 pm HST and has regained about 1/3 of the tilt lost from deflation. At current rates, the earliest start of episode 51 fountains is mid-day tomorrow, which may be preceded by precursory activity.

Summit deflation continues with a total of 1.5 urad recorded on UWD tiltmeter since yesterday morning. North vent glow is still strong this evening. Episode 51 unlikely to start until late Monday at the earliest.

Deflation of Kīlauea's summit that began at 7 am HST continues at this time. Visible spattering from the vents ended this morning around 10:15 am HST. The forecast window is pushed back to July 12-14 dependent on the return of inflation.
