The Urban Waters Federal Partnership (UWFP) strives to reconnect urban communities—particularly those that are overburdened or economically distressed—with their waterways by improving coordination among federal agencies.

The UWFP also collaborates with community-led revitalization efforts to improve our Nation's water systems and promote their economic, environmental and social benefits. In Fiscal Year 2017 the NWQP was asked to redirect $717K in NWQP funding to UWFP CMF to support water-quality related projects in several of the 19 designated UWFP project areas.  Projects funded since the start of the UWFP funding in fiscal year 2017 supported a wide range of water-quality related monitoring, assessment, management practice evaluation, and educational activities. These projects are done in cooperation with municipal, state, and regional partners focused on restoring and revitalizing urban waterways.


Below are several highlights of recent accomplishments and planned activities:

  • In 2017, eight projects were funded with UWFP cooperative matching funds with local UWFP partners in Albuquerque, New Mexico; northeastern Indiana; Bronx-Harlem, New York; and San Antonio, Texas
     
  • In 2018, funding continued for four projects in the areas listed previously; additional projects were funded in UWFP project areas near Baltimore, Maryland and Kansas City, Missouri.
