The National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPRA) Legacy Data Archive contains geological and geophysical data collected during two extensive exploration programs, the first conducted by the U.S. Navy between 1944 and 1953 and a second conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from 1974 to 1982.

This StoryMap illustrates the hazards that orphan wells pose to groundwater in the continental United States at the aquifer scale. The Geologic Hydrogen Prospectivity Map Explorer hosts various geologic and geophysical data layers in support of the U.S. Geological Survey’s initiative to map the potential of geologic hydrogen within the conterminous U.S. This first-ever Hydrogen Map Explorer contains 19 input maps and 7 integrated maps that highlight prospective areas for naturally occurring hydrogen across the country.

This StoryMap highlights groundwater chemistry constituents near documented orphaned wells in the United States. It explores parameters like chloride, sulfate, and methane to inform plugging and remediation strategies with a variety of interactive maps.

The database is designed to be a convenient resource for any member of the public to easily access source rock data from across the Gulf Coast region, circumventing the need for extensive, time-consuming literature searches.

This application provides an overview of oil and gas well history of the United States, from 1880 to September 1, 2022. Well history data is aggregated into 10-mile squares indicating the total number of wells and counts of wells classified as oil, gas, dry, injection, hydraulically fractured, and/or horizontal wells.
