Data

Our interdisciplinary, integrated science teams develop various data sets in support of the USGS mission areas. This information then aids natural resource managers in decision making and support of the complex issues they face in today's world. The data and tools listed here are official USGS data releases.

Multimetric Index macroinvertebrate values from the Fountain Creek Basin, Colorado 2005 to 2016. Multimetric Index macroinvertebrate values from the Fountain Creek Basin, Colorado 2005 to 2016.

These data have been collected as part of a cooperative project in between the U.S. Geological Survey Colorado Water Science Center, Colorado Springs Utility, and Colorado Springs Engineering. This project began in 2005 and has collected macroinvertebrate samples from Fountain Creek and its tributaries to monitor the biological condition of this watershed. Provided in this data release...

Tolerance, phenology, and resistance data for streptanthus Tolerance, phenology, and resistance data for streptanthus

We collected data on tolerance using comparative approaches in a clade of mustards, emphasizing the variety of contexts in which damage is realistically tolerated. We estimated tolerance to leaf damage, tolerance to apical clipping at the bolting stage -simulating browsing- and resistance to a specialist and generalist lepidopteran herbivore for a group of native mustards, grown in field...

Seed set coefficients of variation for two-decade periods (1900-2013) Seed set coefficients of variation for two-decade periods (1900-2013)

Compiled 1086 datasets of plant seed production spanning 1900-2013 and from around the world were binned into 2-decade periods for which CV (coefficient of variation) of seed set was calculated. Skewness, dip test, mean, and kurtosis were calculated for the same periods.

Breeding Bird Survey songbird occurrences during 1977-1979 and 2012-2014 in conterminous U.S. Breeding Bird Survey songbird occurrences during 1977-1979 and 2012-2014 in conterminous U.S.

Data used in: "Misleading prioritizations from modeling range shifts under climate change" by H.R. Sofaer, C.S. Jarnevich, and C.H. Flather. Breeding Bird Survey data (version 2014.0) for songbirds were summarized over historical (1977-1979) and recent (2012-2014) time periods at routes in the conterminous U.S. Avian occurrence data were combined with information on climate and land...

Water quality, atmospheric nitrogen deposition and herbaceous plant species richness in the USA, 1970-2011. Water quality, atmospheric nitrogen deposition and herbaceous plant species richness in the USA, 1970-2011.

This data release is comprised of a data set that contains specific conductance and chloride concentration data in HUC-8 watersheds that intersect with areas with unconventional oil and gas plays, and a data set that contains atmospheric nitrogen deposition rates and herbaceous plant species richness values across sample sites in the USA.

Migrating Bird Survey Data Along the San Pedro River and its Tributaries, Southeastern Arizona, 1989-1994 Migrating Bird Survey Data Along the San Pedro River and its Tributaries, Southeastern Arizona, 1989-1994

Data files in this data series represent migrating bird count and habitat information collected during 1989, 1991, 1993, and 1994 field seasons at 13 riparian sites along the San Pedro River and its tributaries in southeastern Arizona, USA. At each site observations were made at up to 20 points, separated by 100 m arrayed along the riparian zone. Observation periods started at 20 minutes...

Potential Land-use Intensity, Aridification Trends, Overlap, and Impact Scenarios, Geospatial Data, Colorado Plateau, USA Potential Land-use Intensity, Aridification Trends, Overlap, and Impact Scenarios, Geospatial Data, Colorado Plateau, USA

These geospatial data characterize the potential for geographic overlap among areas likely to experience climate drying (aridification) and high intensity land-use with population growth, recreation tourism, agriculture, energy development, and mining on the Colorado Plateau. Spatial overlap between areas of high land-use intensity and aridification were used to create scenarios and...

Grooming behaviors of black-tailed prairie dogs in Phillips County, Montana, 2006 Grooming behaviors of black-tailed prairie dogs in Phillips County, Montana, 2006

Data on factors that affect the grooming behaviors of black-tailed prairie dogs in Phillips County, Montana, 2006. Each line of data presents information for a focal observation of a single black-tailed prairie dog. The data includes information on the date of each observation, the approximate coordinates of sites, the time of each observation, indexed wind speed, indexed temperature...

Demography and habitat use of boreal toads (Anaxyrus boreas) and other amphibians in northern Wyoming (Blackrock). Demography and habitat use of boreal toads (Anaxyrus boreas) and other amphibians in northern Wyoming (Blackrock).

Amphibian decline is a problem of global importance, with over 40% of species considered at risk. This phenomenon is not limited to the tropics or to other countries. Amphibian species in the U.S. are also declining, contributing to the larger, global phenomenon. For example, in the State of Wyoming, the Wyoming toad has been extirpated in the wild and the boreal toad is a species of...

USGS Southwest Repeat Photography Collection: Kanab Creek, southern UT and northern AZ, 1872-2010 USGS Southwest Repeat Photography Collection: Kanab Creek, southern UT and northern AZ, 1872-2010

The USGS Southwest Repeat Photography Collection (Collection), formerly named the Desert Laboratory Repeat Photography Collection, is now housed by the Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) in Flagstaff, Arizona. It contains images from the late 1800s to mid-2000s, and was assembled over decades by now retired USGS scientists Drs. Robert H. Webb and Raymond M. Turner. There are 80...

Hydrogen stable isotope data for: 'Mechanisms associated with an advance in the timing of seasonal reproduction in an urban songbird'. Hydrogen stable isotope data for: 'Mechanisms associated with an advance in the timing of seasonal reproduction in an urban songbird'.

This dataset includes stable hydrogen isotope values of the nonexchangeable hydrogen contained in the outer most secondary feathers of dark-eyed juncos (Junco hyemalis thurberi) collected from the University of California San Diego campus in La Jolla, California in 2014. Hydrogen isotope values in feathers have become a powerful tool for inferring the breeding grounds of a wide variety...

Dataset: Passive restoration following ungulate removal in a highly disturbed tropical wet forest devoid of native seed dispersers Dataset: Passive restoration following ungulate removal in a highly disturbed tropical wet forest devoid of native seed dispersers

On an island largely devoid of native vertebrate seed dispersers, we monitored forest succession for seven years following ungulate exclusion from a 5-hectare area and adjacent plots with ungulates still present. The study site was in northern Guam on Andersen Air Force Base (1337N, 14451E) and situated on a coralline limestone plateau. We established 22 plots and six 0.25-m2 subplots to...
