Noninfectious Diseases

Noninfectious diseases can be caused by contaminant exposures, algal toxins, changes in the environment that cause stress to the fish or other aquatic organism and even mechanical damage to the fins or scales of fish encountering barriers to fish migration.  Signs of noninfectious diseases may include skin and liver tumors or lesions, negative impacts to reproductive health which may present as lack of reproductive health or production of vitellogenin in male fish or rapid and large scale fish kills from exposure to algal toxins.
