Statistics and information on the mining industry in Bangladesh.

Overview

In 2024, Bangladesh was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities (excluding all mineral fuels except coal) contributed 1.3% to Bangladesh’s gross domestic product. Mineral commodities produced in Bangladesh included cement, iron and steel, nitrogen, salt, steel products, and stone. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Bangladesh is provided by the Mine and Mineral Resources (Control and Development) Act of 1992 and the Mining and Mineral Rules of 2012. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources oversees the mineral sector and is responsible for the exploration, extraction, import, distribution, and management of energy and mineral commodities. Most mineral commodities were produced by domestic private companies.
