Cabo Verde (Cape Verde)

Statistics and information on the mining industry in Cabo Verde.

Overview

In 2024, Cabo Verde was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the economy of Cabo Verde. Mineral commodities produced in Cabo Verde included cement and salt, however, available information was inadequate to make reliable estimates of output for these mineral commodities. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Cabo Verde is provided by Decree‑Law No. 3/2015, amended by Decree‑Law No. 34/2021 and Decree‑Law No. 16/2023, which defines the legal regime for the exploration, licensing, and mining of mineral deposits and quarries. Cabo Verde does not have a dedicated mining authority; oversight of the mineral sector is exercised primarily by the Ministério da Indústria, Comércio e Energia (MICE) [Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Energy]. MICE is responsible for the formulation and implementation of government policy in the areas of industry, commerce, and energy, and for overseeing related economic activities. Most mineral commodities were produced by private companies.
