Statistics and information on the mining industry in Côte d'Ivoire.

Overview

In 2024, Côte d’Ivoire was the world’s eighth-ranked producer of manganese, accounting for 1.8% of global production. Other mineral commodities produced in the country included bauxite, cement, diamond, gold, nickel, and silver. The share of gross domestic product for the mining industry, including crude petroleum, natural gas, and refined products, was 3.4% in 2022, the latest year for which data were available. In 2022, the latest year for which data were available, Côte d’Ivoire exported diamond to Belgium; gold to Australia, France, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates; and manganese and nickel to China, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, India, the Republic of Korea, and Latvia.

The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Côte d’Ivoire is provided by the mining code, law No. 2014–138 of March 24, 2014, as well as by the decree that implemented it, decree 2014-97 of June 25, 2014. The governmental structure that governs the mining industry in the country is headed by the Council of Ministers, which is the main governmental body that has decision-making power over all mining activity on the national territory. It has the authority to grant or withdraw mining titles and other mining.  Most mineral commodities were produced by private domestic and foreign private companies that had, by law, at least 10% share of the Government’s ownership, or by government-private industry partnerships in which the government has a say in the running of the company. Manganese in Côte d’Ivoire was produced from four operating mines: the Bondoukou Mine, the Kaniasso Mine, the Lagnonkaha Mine, and the Lauzoua-Mokta Mine.
