Statistics and information on the mining industry in Croatia.

Overview

In 2024, Croatia was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. The production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the country’s economy. Mineral commodities produced in Croatia included aluminum products, bauxite, cement and cement clinker, gypsum, lead, lime, nitrogen, salt, sand and gravel, raw steel, stone (crushed and dimension), and sulfur (as a byproduct of petroleum). The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Croatia is provided by the Mining Act (Official Gazette Nos. 56/13, 14/14, 52/18, 115/18, 98/19, and 83/23), the Act on the Exploration and Exploitation of Hydrocarbons (Official Gazette Nos. 52/18, 52/19, and 30/21), and the Law on Geological Explorations (Official Gazette No. 34/86). The Ministry of Economy’s Directorate of Industry and Mining regulates the mining industry; among its other duties, it issues mining permits and keeps records of domestic mineral reserves. Most mineral commodities were produced by domestic companies, which were privately owned.
