Statistics and information on the mining industry in Equatorial Guinea.

Overview

In 2024, Equatorial Guinea was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. The economy of Equatorial Guinea was based largely on the production of hydrocarbons. Production of nonfuel mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the economy. Diamond, a variety of crude construction materials (clay, gravel, rock, and sand), and gold may have been produced, but available information was inadequate to make reliable estimates of output. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Equatorial Guinea is provided by Law No. 1/2019 (the mining law), Regulation 1/2020, (the mining operations regulations) and Law No. 8/2006 (the hydrocarbons law). The Ministerio de Minas e Hidrocarburos [Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons] oversees the mineral sector and provides for establishing and updating the legal framework for mining operations, regulating mines and quarries, protecting the environment, and promoting the employment of Equatoguinean personnel.
