Statistics and information on the mining industry in Fiji.

Overview

In 2024, Fiji was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the economy of the country. Mineral commodities produced in Fiji included cement, gold, iron, sand, and silver. The legislative framework for the mineral sector is provided by the Environment Management Act, the Land Use Decree 2010, the Land Use Regulations, the Mining Act of 1965 (amended in 2010), the Oil and Petroleum Act, the Quarry Act, and the Surveyors Act. The Mineral Resources Department under the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources develops mining policies, provides geologic information, and facilitates the exploration for and the development of mineral resources. Most mineral commodities were produced by domestic and foreign private and public companies.
