Overview

In 2024, Guatemala was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the economy. Mineral commodities produced in Guatemala included bentonite, cement, feldspar, gemstone (jadeite), gold, gypsum, kaolin, magnesite, pumice, sand and gravel (construction), raw steel, stone, and talc. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Guatemala is provided by Decree No. 48/1997. The Ministry of Energy and Mines oversee the mineral sector and provides administrative, technical, and regulatory services through its General Directorate of Mining. Most mineral commodities were produced by private companies.
