Statistics and information on the mining industry in Guinea Bissau.

Overview

In 2024, Guinea Bissau was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the economy of Guinea Bissau. Bauxite, heavy-mineral sands, and phosphate rock may have been produced in Guinea-Bissau, but available information was inadequate to make reliable estimates of output. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Guinea Bissau is provided by Mining and Quarrying Code (law No. 3/2014). The Ministério dos Recursos Naturais [Ministry of Natural Resources] oversees the mineral sector and, in practice, functions as the authority responsible for oversight of mineral exploration, however, its detailed objectives are not formally published.
