Guinea-Bissau

In 2024, Guinea Bissau was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the economy of Guinea- Bissau. Bauxite, heavy-mineral sands, and phosphate rock may have been produced in Guinea-Bissau, but available information was inadequate to make reliable estimates of output. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Guinea Bissau is provided law No. 3/2014 Code of Mines and Quarries. The Ministério dos Recursos Naturais [Ministry of Natural Resources] oversees the mineral sector and, in practice, functions as the authority responsible for oversight of mineral exploration, however, its detailed objectives are not formally published (Republic of Guinea‑Bissau, 2014, p. 1, 5).
