Statistics and information on the mining industry in Israel.

Overview

In 2024, Israel was estimated to be the world’s leading producer of bromine, accounting for 43% of global production (not including United States production); 4th-ranked producer of magnesium metal, accounting for 1.6% of global production; 7th-ranked producer of potash, accounting for 4.8% of global production; and 14th-ranked producer of phosphate rock, accounting for 1.0% of global production. The country also produced other mineral commodities, such as cement, clays, fertilizers, gypsum, refined lead (secondary), lime, magnesium, potash, salt, raw steel, stone, sand and gravel, and sulfur. Production of minerals and products thereof, including petroleum products, contributed 13% to Israel’s gross domestic product. In 2024, Israel exported 62,400 metric tons of bromine, 56% of which went to China.

The mining sector was governed by the Mining Ordinance of 1925 and subsequent regulations enacted in 1973 and 1978; and the Dead Sea Concession Law passed in 1961 and amended in 1986. The Mines and Quarries Division of the Natural Resources Administration of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure oversees activities in the mining sector. Most mineral commodities were produced by private companies.
